Communities In Schools of Greater Wichita Falls Area offers afterschool programs Monday – Thursday, available to students attending Barwise and Kirby.  Programming for the students is after school from 3pm – 5pm.
CIS Afterschool programs provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children and help students:
  • Meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math
  • Offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs
  • Offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children

CIS Barwise ASAP partnering with the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank in teaching Healthy Nutrition in Cooking Matters Club.

The goal of all Texas CIS programs to improve academics, improve attendance, improve behavior, improve promotion (to the next grade level) rates and improve graduation rates.  Simply put, this program provides hours that add up to additional days of academic enrichment for the student each year and places the student in a safe and healthy environment protected from many risk factors that derail students between the end of the school day and the time their parents return home.

Each day, students receive a snack while they settle in to complete their homework.  In addition to homework completion, students rotate through academic learning activities and a wide variety enrichment opportunities.
